Two strands of the DNA molecule is zipped open, a copy is made of the code and a message written in letters – A C G T – is sent from the nucleus to the cytoplasm where the ribosomes are. There the message is read by transfer RNA which executes the code of making protein. It collects the specified amino acids, places them in the right order in chains of polarity where they stabilise, then fold them into the right shape to form the most basic building stones of man made. 1)
In isolation the above reality is a small part of ultimate reality, which is God’s reality. John Piper writes that the bible informs us about God’s reality, that it illuminates all other realities by revealing their relationship to ultimate reality. When Paul wrote that the letter, the smallest building block of words kills, but the Spirit gives life (2 Cor 3:6). He was referring to the law carved on stone which condemned and killed versus the work of the Spirit of the living God who writes on the tablets of human hearts, doing what the new covenant promised, giving life: spiritual life namely eternal life. The Spirit takes away deadly blindness of the heart to see every letter as it really is in true relationship to ultimate reality, to the glory of Christ, and God, and the cross and faith, and God’s revealed purposes in the world. 2)
Red, that passionate man whose blood pumps red in his veins, who would do anything for you, even engage in toxic toil for you, wear a mask and lose his soul for you, his stones are crying ‘this is not who I am!’
Then You called him out upon the waters
into the great unknown, in oceans deep
and there I found You in the mystery in oceans deep where feet may fail
in deepest waters Your grace abounds,
and I called upon Your name and kept my eyes above the waves.
Your sovereign hand will be my guide and I will call upon Your name, keep my eyes above the waves, when oceans rise my soul will rest in Your embrace for I am Yours and You are mine.
Spirit lead me where my trust is without borders, let me walk upon the waters wherever You would call me. Take me deeper than my feet can ever wander and my faith will be made stronger in the presence of my Saviour. 3)
